| Partner, Cleary Gottleib Steen & Hamilton LLP Michael Weinberger is a partner based in the New York office. Mr. Weinberger’s practice focuses on real estate law, with a particular focus on real estate finance, workouts, restructurings and commercial mortgage securitization. He frequently represents lenders, borrowers and issuers in complex multi-state mortgage and mezzanine loan transactions involving office buildings, hotels, shopping centers, multi-family, industrial, casino and other property types. He is distinguished as one of the country‚s best real estate lawyers by Chambers Global, Chambers USA, The Legal Media Group Guide to the World‚s Leading Real Estate Lawyers, The Best Lawyers in America and The Legal 500. Mr. Weinberger recently represented Goldman Sachs, Bank of America and Bear Stearns in the $36 billion financing of the acquisition of Equity Office Properties Trust by The Blackstone Group, the largest real estate transaction in history. He also recently represented Apollo Management and TPG Capital in connection with the $6.5 billion mortgage and mezzanine financing of their $27.8 billion leveraged buyout of casino operator Harrah’s Entertainment. Mr. Weinberger previously advised Goldman Sachs Mortgage Company in the origination and securitization of a $1.7 billion loan secured by Rockefeller Center, the largest single-asset real estate loan and largest single-asset securitization in history. Mr. Weinberger joined the firm in 1992 and became a partner in 2000. He received a J.D. degree, magna cum laude, in 1991 from Harvard Law School, where he was an editor of the Harvard Law Review. He received an undergraduate degree, summa cum laude, from Yale University in 1988. Mr. Weinberger also served as law clerk to the Honorable Leonard Garth of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. Mr. Weinberger is a member of the Bar in New York. |
